Computing
“Humans are still the most extraordinary computers of all.” - John F. Kennedy
In line with the National Curriculum for Computing, our aim at Rose Hill is to provide a high-quality computing education. We will endeavour to equip children to be able to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technology.
The curriculum will teach children key knowledge so that they understand how computers and computer systems work, and how they are designed and programmed. We will show and model how to use technology correctly and confidently as this is an important tool in both the society we live in and in the process of teaching and learning. Children at Rose Hill will use technology to find, explore, research and analyse information for themselves to help them become independent learners in all subjects, as well as Computing
Three main areas of the computing curriculum will allow the children of Rose Hill to gain a broad knowledge of the skills required to succeed with technology:
- computer science (programming and understanding how digital systems work),
- information technology (using computer systems to store, retrieve and send information)
- digital literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully).
Each key stage will build on prior knowledge and ensure a solid foundation for future education. We work together with hi-impact to plan and deliver a high-quality curriculum that prepares our pupils for the next stages in their education journey.
Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception & Nursery)
Computing and technology are important subjects to deliver to EYFS children. A well-planned computing curriculum in the EYFS ensures that children enter Year 1 with a strong foundation of key skills and knowledge. Computing lessons in the EYFS also ensure that children develop coordination skills, listening skills, problem-solving abilities and questioning — as well as improving subject knowledge and skills across the seven areas of learning.
With the technology strand being removed from the EYFS curriculum, hi-impact have developed a set of skills and experiences for EYFS to use which will prepare the children for Computing in KS1.
